The Artificial Intelligence 2024-2026: published the complete document of the Italian Strategy

A few days after the publication of the AI Act in the Official Journal of the European Union and the beginning of the hearings in the Commission of the Senate concerning the draft law on artificial intelligence, the complete document of the Italian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2024-2026Also available in English. This text was drafted by a Committee of Experts, with the aim of supporting the Government in the creation of national legislation and strategies related to this technology. The Committee, composed of fourteen highly competent and experienced members, has worked hard to examine the impact of artificial intelligence and develop a strategic plan that promotes responsible and inclusive development of AI. Coordinated by Gianluigi Greco, professor of computer science at the University of Calabria and president of AixIA, the group includes distinguished experts such as Viviana Acquaviva, Paolo Benanti and Maria Chiara Carrozza. The Italian Strategy for Artificial Intelligence represents a fundamental step for Italy, which aspires to position itself as a leader in the field of AI and in the technological transition, especially because of its active role in the G7 Presidency. The document highlights the Government’s commitment to facilitating a safe, ethical and inclusive environment for the progress of the AI, maximising benefits and reducing potential risks. After analysing the global context and Italian positioning, strategic actions are outlined in four main areas: Research, Public Administration, Enterprise and Training. In addition, a monitoring system and an analysis of the regulatory environment are proposed, outlining the framework within which the AI will have to develop. The Committee received the support of a Technical Secretariat at theAgenzia for Digital Italy, which has assisted in planning activities and drawing up documentation.
